Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Wild Birds Music Venue & Bar has announced its imminent closure. The beloved live music spot in the Crown Heights neighborhood will shut its doors permanently on Sept. 5. News of the forthcoming closure was shared on social media yesterday, which caused an outpouring of love for the location.
In a statement shared on Wild Birds’ official Instagram account, they wrote: “Some sad and sudden news: In a few short weeks, wild birds will be closing its doors.” The statement went on to shoutout the musicians who have performed at the venue since its inception: “To the musicians who poured their souls out from our stage; to the staff who kept this beautiful beast humming; and to all our guests, who flocked to our 2,000 square feet of hardwood floor… you have no idea what you mean to us. Your smiles and laughter and ecstatic movement turned this place into a home. You made our dream take flight.”
While the venue did not add details on the cause of the closure, they did lend some comments on the decision to shut its doors and what’s to come in the future: “And while this is undoubtedly sad news, this is not the end. We aren’t able to discuss the details at this time, but please know that while it’s true that wild birds is a brick-and-mortar location, it is—more than that—an idea that will rise again, like the phoenix. We don’t know how yet, and we don’t know when, but we promise to update everyone, on Instagram, as we figure out our next migration.”
