Last night, Oteil and Friends opened up for Gov’t Mule at Boston’s Roadrunner venue before Burbridge joined Warren Haynes on stage during the latter half of the Thursday night performance. During the collaborative sit-in, the musicians ran through a selection of material by The Allman Brothers Band and Jerry Garcia.

The single-set affair got underway with the “Thorazine Shuffle” off their 1998 album, Dose, before moving through “Stone Cold Rage” and a cover of Junior Wells’ Chicago Blues Band’s “Snatch It Back and Hold It.” The Haynes-led band returned to their original material off Dose on “Game Face,” which ran into the first taste of The Allman Brothers Band’s repertoire with “Mountain Jam.” Gov’t Mule segued into “Game Face” again, before coming out of the super jam on “Time to Confess.”

The performance’s second half continued with “Captured” and “Revolution Come, Revolution Go.” Then, the band broke into a take on Howlin’ Wolf’s seminal track, “I Asked for Water (She Gave Me Gasoline),” before working their way into The Allman Brothers Band’s “Kind of Bird.” Next, Burbridge appeared on stage, marking a mini-reunion for the one-time members of the final iteration of The Allman Brother Band’s lineup. Fittingly, they opened the sit-in with a cover of the latter’s “Dreams” before following up with a take on Jerry Garcia’s “Sugaree.”

Burbridge exited the stage after the two-song collaboration, leaving Gov’t Mule to take on Al Green’s “I’m a Ram” to end the single-set performance in Beantown. The band returned to the stage for their encore and delivered a single tune to cap the evening. They landed on 2017’s “Traveling Tune,” as the final number.

Following last night’s show, Gov’t Mule will continue their summer tour in New Haven, Conn., with a scheduled gig at the Westville Music Bowl on Aug. 13. For additional information about Gov’t Mule’s forthcoming tour stops, visit their official website
