Last night, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros performed at Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, N.C. Weir debuted the first verses of a new song, “She Knows What I’m Thinkin,’” and Jay Lane paid tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins during the band’s encore.
The show got underway with “The Music Never Stopped,” which segued into “Easy Answers” and a reprise of the set opener. The ensemble followed up with a take of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece.” Next, they performed Johnny Cash’s “Big River,” a tune that the Grateful Dead frequently covered.
Midway through the first set, the band left the stage, leaving Weir to debut the first verses of a new song, which he described as “a work in progress.” The song is titled “She Knows What I’m Thinkin,’” and was co-written by Weir, J.D. Souther and Aaron Raitiere. Fans might recall, Weir joined Souther for a few numbers at The Franklin Theatre in Franklin, Tenn., on March 11.
The concert continued with another Weir solo, this time a take on “Corrina.” Before the first set concluded, the band returned for a pairing of “Lost Sailor” and “Saint of Circumstance.” Set two kicked off with “Friend of the Devil,” followed by a “Women are Smarter” tour debut. Weir & Wolf Bros continued with a powerful take on “Looks Like Rain” followed by “Eyes of the World.” The latter segued into “What’s Going On” followed by a return to “Eyes of the World.”
The set continued with a take on “All Along the Watchtower.” Next, the band played “Stella Blue” before finishing with an energetic “One More Saturday Night.” After a brief break, the ensemble returned to the stage for their encore; Lane dedicated “Brokedown Palace” to Hawkins, who unexpectedly passed away on Friday at age 50.
