Last night, My Morning Jacket performed the second evening of their all-inclusive concert vacation, One Big Holiday at the Moon Palace The Grand, in Cancún, Mexico. The show featured several bust-outs, a debut and their first-ever joint performance with Phish guitarist and music icon Trey Anastasio.

My Morning Jacket opened what would serve as the only set of the evening with a bust-out of “Welcome Home,” embracing their guests with sonic waves that haven’t been heard since Jan. 26, 2014. Next came the first iridescent threads off of 2003 It Still Moves, “Golden.” Next, frontman Jim James and his band treated fans to “Sooner” off their live album Okonokos; they haven’t played it live since Nov. 28, 2015. The band then moved into some denser territory with a rendition of the droning “Victory Dance.” Next came the healing “Compound Fracture,” which was followed by the first song off their recently released self-titled album, “Love Love Love.”

They moved back into their earlier work with “Master Plan” and “Old Sept. Blues” before getting back into new material with “Never In The Real World.” Next, My Morning Jacket played the first song off their beloved album, The Waterfall II, “Climbing The Ladder.” They kept the bust outs rolling by playing the rocking “Aluminum Park” for the first time since March 5, 2018, followed by their cover of My Morning Jacket guitarist Carl Broemel’s “Carried Away,” which hasn’t been heard from the band since Dec. 29, 2017. Next came “Lay Low” off Z and “Run It” off The Waterfall II. The reflective and stilling “Only Memories Remain” followed, showcasing James’ tremendously mellifluous vocal runs. They continued with My Morning Jacket’s “Penny for Your Thoughts” and the exuberant “Anytime.” Next came out the final bust out of the evening, “Strangulation!” which the band last played in March of 2018. My Morning Jacket closed the set with the end of “Run Thru,” followed by the angelic hit song “Gideon.”

To the delight of fans, My Morning Jacket returned to the stage for their encore with Anastasio in tow. Anastasio had recently closed out Phish: Riviera Maya with his band, and it seems he decided to extend his stay just a bit longer. My Morning Jacket and Anastasio opened the encore with a cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man.” Next, they played the band’s debut cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.” To close out the evening, an especially jubilant Anastasio and a fully rocking My Morning Jacket performed “Mahgeetah,” exchanging solos vocals and morphed in an extensive improvisational performance shared by all six on stage.
