Pigeons Playing Ping Pong played at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 12, with TAUK. The show featured a number of collaborative displays between Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, TAUK along with local special guests, trumpeter Sam Trump and saxophonist Corbin Andrick.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong came out early for a collaborative performance of “Space Jam Theme” to close out TAUK’s opening set. Then they kicked off their headlining set with “Sports Theme” and fan-favorite, “Something For Ya,” which Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has played a whopping 88 times since 2016. Toward the second half of set one, Chicago-based Trump and Andrick joined for “Whoopie” off of 2013’s Pleasure and the live debut of Piegons’ latest release “Elephante” from the forthcoming album, Perspective.
Trump and Andrick were back on stage as Pigeons Playing Ping Pong open their second set with “King Kong” and a cover of Stevie Wonder’s hit, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.” Next, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s tour manager, Kevin “Chud” McKay, hopped on bass for “Lightning.” The second set was rounded off by Trump and Andrick on “Fortress” and “Sunny Day,” the songs also featured TAUK member Alric “A.C.” Carter on the keyboard.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong began their encore with “In the Bubble” and then commenced their grand finale; to close they performed a memorable cover of Kool & The Gang’s “Hollywood Swinging” with both Trump and Andrick on horns and all members of TAUK.
