Joe Russo’s Almost Dead closed out their two-night Fillmore run in Philadelphia, Pa., last night. The band performed Grateful Dead favorites and debuted a cover of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence.” Frequent collaborator, Stuart Bogie sat in on saxophone.
Friday night kicked off with “Greatest Story Ever Told” and “The Wheel,” totaling 33-minutes. Next, the band broke into a 14-minute long “Uncle John’s Band” before offering a famous pairing of “Lost Sailor” into “Saint of Circumstance” to end the set.
The second set featured a “Here Comes Sunshine” opener featuring notes from “The Eleven,” which was played at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia the night before. Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performed a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tell Me, Momma” and “Shakedown Street,” which featured notes of the set opener.
Set two continued with “Cumberland Blues” and a taste of “Scarlet Begonias” before launching into “Black-Throated Women” and “Alabama Getaway” to end the second set. Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to the stage for an encore performance of “Jack Straw.”
Last night’s show began with “New Speedway Boogie” and continued with “Estimated Prophet” and “Dark Star” before breaking into a tease of “Here Comes Sunshine” from the previous night. The set continued with “St. Stephen” and followed with a cover of The Beatles “Hey Bulldog.” The first set ended with “Viola Lee Blues.”
