Yo La Tengo’s eight-night Hanukkah run at New York’s Bowery Ballroom continued last night. The Duo of Marisa Anderson and William Tyler, in their first New York appearance, served as the night’s surprise opening act and Roy Wood Jr. was the show’s guest comedian. At the end of Anderson and Tyler’s set, all three members of Yo La Tengo joined for “Something Will Come.” Then, Anderson and Tyler returned the favor by joining the evening’s headliners for their entire set, which kicked off with a run from “You Are Here” into “The Fireside” and “Damage.” (Anderson sat out briefly on “Shades of Blue” and “Tears Are In Your Eyes.)

For their encore, which focuses on Jewish songwriters each night of Hanukkah, Yo La Tengo brought out Ivan Julian to sing and play guitar on Richard Hell’s “The Kid With the Replaceable Head,” Hell’s arrangement of Bob Dylan’s “Going, Going, Gone” and Hell’s Blank Generation.” Julian performed with Hell in Voidoids and Lovelies.
