A Grateful Dead t-shirt has set a new record for the highest-selling band t-shirt in auction ever. The shirt which was sold through Sotheby’s went for a staggering $17,640, nearly doubling the previous record-holder a Led Zeppelin t-shirt from a 1979 show at Knebworth, which was sold on eBay for $10,000.
The Grateful Dead t-shirt comes from Dan Healy, an engineer who once worked for the Grateful Dead. The t-shirt is said to be one of the earliest official t-shirts ever made for the band and was designed by Allan “Gut” Terk.

The auction where the t-shirt was sold was called “From the Vault: Property from the Grateful Dead and Friends.” It was reported they likely only made 150 copies of the shirt.
