This week’s installment of the Grateful Dead’s ‘All The Years Live’ series flashes Deadheads back to July 16, 1990, with a tight pairing of “Sugar Magnolia / Scarlet Begonias.”
As explains GD archivist David Lemieux, “A rare second set opening ‘Sugar Magnolia’ was followed by what felt like its natural partner whenever it was played outside of its usual set-closing position, ‘Scarlet Begonias.’ From just 10 days before Brent’s passing, this Buffalo show was another strong stop on the summer tour of 1990.”

Then reason could have set in and they could have let dude go (who, like Hart, never belonged anyway, as Jerry, Phil, and Billy would have preferred after hiatus.) THEN we all could have got back to the best art of the 20th century. ALAS! Lost time! Yet, what good years we spent!
