This week’s edition of All The Years Live is taking Deadheads back to October 18, 1974 with a version of “Sugaree” live from San Francisco’s Winterland Arena.
“When we were producing the DVD of The Grateful Dead Movie in 2004, the first unreleased song we transferred to see if we’d be able to include bonus songs was this version of ‘Sugaree,'” recalls Grateful Dead archivist/legacy manager David Lemieux. “It was selected for a number of reasons: it was excellent; there were several camera angles filmed, and it was short-enough to do a test on. Once the 16mm film was transferred and edited, and then synced with the audio, we realized we’d be able to include plenty of bonus material. This wonderful ‘Sugaree’ began that process.”
