On the last night of January, Greensky Bluegrass played their first of two shows at Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem. The band covered The Allman Brothers’ take on “One Way Out” during the first set and played a Phish tune for the encore. They also invited a couple of guests; vibraslap player Guido Batista sat in during set one, and Cris Jacobs (whose band opened the show) joined Greensky during set two.

The show began with “Handguns,” followed by “Gold Rush.” Next, Greensky invited Guido Batista to provide vibraslap work on “What You Need.” Later in the set, the band performed a rendition of “One Way Out,” a song originally by Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James and made famous to many by The Allman Brothers Band. The set closed with a pairing of “Room Without a Roof” > “Run or Die.”

Set two began with “Jaywalking,” which included a quote of “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox.” In the middle of the set, the band invited Cris Jacobs to the stage for “Forever Young.” Jacobs remained onstage for “All Four.” The set closed with “Last Winter in the Copper Country.” For the encore, Greensky opted for a cover of Phish’s “Chalkdust Torture.”

Greensky Bluegrass returns to the stage tonight, Feb. 1, at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. Ghost Light will provide support, which could perhaps lead to some more sit-ins.
