After kicking off their Mexican getaway on Thursday, Dead & Company continued their Playing in the Sand event on Saturday night, playing two full sets of improv-laden Grateful Dead favorites.
A show-opening “Bertha” was a sign of good things to come, as was the following “Good Lovin'” jam. Set one also featured a “Shakedown Street,” “High Time” and “Cold Rain and Snow,” probably nodding to the iffy weather earlier in the weekend – or the lack thereof, compared to more northern climes.
The set closed with Bob Dylan’s “Mighty Quinn” aka “Quinn The Eskimo,” which the band debuted in late 2019.
A massive “Help”> “Slip”> “Franklin’s” segment encapsulated the second half, with segues through “St. Stephen”> “The Eleven”> “Bass”> “Drums”> “Space”> “Spanish Jam”> “New Speedway Boogie”> “Stella Blue,” between “Slipknot!” and the set-closing “Franklin’s Tower.”
Closing out their Saturday night party, D&C appropriately closed the show with “One More Saturday Night.”
Playing in the Sand ends tonight – Jan. 19.

January 21, 2020 at 2:12 pmIf you listen to that Help on the Way while driving in reverse, you can actually go back in time! Yes! It really is that slow!!!!
Bobby’s tone sounds like a rusty metal spring scraping on a rusty harp with loose strings. I just don’t understand how people think this shit is good.

January 19, 2020 at 1:05 pmSounds just about perfect played back at 1.15x speed. Check it out for yourself, go to playback speed>custom settings. Makes me realize that sonically this band really has it going on, its just hard to focus on that when its usually painfully slow.

January 19, 2020 at 3:26 pmYou know $happy ain’t paying for an intern to go nor D&C giving out any industry freebies. Sounds like they couldn’t even be bothered to spring for and watch a webcast!
