The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the inductees for the 2020 class. The six performers inducted are Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T. Rex.
In addition, Jon Landau and Irving Azoff received the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website, honors “songwriting, producers, disc jockeys, record executives, journalists and other industry professionals who have had a major influence on rock and roll.”
Among those not inducted were Dave Matthews Band and Pat Benetar, who were the two top vote-getters in the Rock Hall’s fan vote. DMB got the most fan votes, with over 1 million, while Benetar got over 800,000, good for second place. The Doobie Brothers, who received the third-most fan votes, were the only artist in the top five to be inducted. Click here to see the fan vote leaderboard on Rock Hall’s website.
Dave Matthews Band not being named an inductee marks the first time since the fan ballot was introduced that the top vote-getter was not inducted. The band put out a statement on their Instagram, wishing congratulations to the other nominees who were inducted. “Congratulations to our fellow nominees that will be inducted into the @rockhall in 2020,” the band wrote. “We want to express gratitude for all of our amazing fans and their support. We reached over a million fan votes! Thank you!” See the band’s post below.
The new inductees will be celebrated at the 35th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which will occur on May 2 at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio. For the first time, the Ceremony will be broadcast live on HBO. Performances for the Ceremony will be announced later.
Tickets go on sale to Rock Hall members on Feb. 25 and to the public on Feb. 27, both at 10 a.m. ET. For more information, visit rockhall.com.

January 15, 2020 at 7:50 pmTo rub salt in the wound, the interns decided not to bother to even spell Pat Benatar’s name right. But we all know proofreading is overrated.

January 15, 2020 at 3:35 pmPeople on here can say what they want – but they have 7 straight albums to debut at #1 and for 20+ years they have had constant sell out tours in sheds/arenas/stadiums. They have done it live, they have done it with recording. They have won a Grammy. What else does the RnR HOF expect from a band?
