The National have announced an upcoming live-recording release, Juicy Sonic Magic, which will be available on Nov. 29 as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday celebration.

The cassette box set collection is the result of producer and engineer Erik Flannigan’s attempt to recreate the methods of legendary concert taper Mike Millard, who made high-quality recordings with limited equipment in the ’70s and ’80s. Flannigan taped The National’s shows at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, Sept. 24 and 25 using the same type of equipment to create Juicy Sonic Magic, which will be released as a three-cassette set.

A short documentary chronicling Flannigan’s efforts, directed by David DuBois, will be released at a later date. Watch a preview video of Juicy Sonic Magic below, and see where you can find the box set on Record Store Day Black Friday here.
