On Sept. 20, Robbie Robertson will release Sinematic, a new album inspired by two separate collaborations with Martin Scorsese; Robertson wrote the score for the forthcoming film The Irishman and sat for interviews as the subject matter of the highly anticipated documentary Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson And The Band.

“I was working on music for The Irishman and working on the documentary, and these things were bleeding into each other,” The Band co-founder said in a statement. “I could see a path. Ideas for songs about haunting and violent and beautiful things were swirling together like a movie. You follow that sound and it all starts to take shape right in front of your ears.”

Guests on the LP include Van Morrison, Glen Hansard, Citizen Cope and more.

According to a press release, the album’s lead single “I Hear You Paint Houses,” features a guest vocal appearance by Morrison and projects “bright guitar and a blithe tone that belies its chilling lyrics… Opening with Robertson’s devilish invitation, ‘Shall we take a little spin/To the dark side of town?,’ the opening track sets the album’s stage for more gripping tales of villainy and vice and powerful stories about destruction and despair.”

And while the album itself will drop on Sept. 20, a special double LP vinyl will be released on Oct. 25, featuring a hardcover book with original artwork by Robertson depicting inspirations behind each song.
