This past Sunday, Tedeschi Trucks Band made yet another stop on their Wheels of Soul, setting up shop at New York’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Over their last few gigs, TTB have been collaborating regularly with Charlie Starr and the rest of Blackberry Smoke, most notably offering a medley of Sly & The Family Stone tunes on Saturday, July 13 in Gilford, NH. Additionally, during their stop as Massachusetts’ Levitate festival, the band jammed on the Allman Brothers’ “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin'” with keyboardist Gabe Dixon, who subbed in for Kofi Burbridge in early 2019 when the late TTB keys man started encountering more serious health issues.

Indeed collaborations have been aplenty on the Wheels of Soul tour, and Sunday at SPAC was no different, as the band jammed once again with Starr for their encore.

Beforehand, TTB opened up their single-set offering with “Let Me Get By” off their 2016 LP of the same name, and moved through newer tunes like “High & Mighty” and “Signs” as well as covers like Willie Nelson’s “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces.”

Later, following a set-closing “I Want More,” TTB invited tourmate and frequent collaborator Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke to jam on blues standard “Key To The Highway,” with Starr, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks all weaving together guitar lines as vocalist Mike Mattison took over vocal duties.

Afterwards, TTB invited Cary Ann Hearst from opener Shovels & Rope to sing background vocals on “Space Captain” (made famous by Joe Cocker).
