Next weekend on July 14, The Dickey Betts Band will release Ramblin’ Man: Live at The St. George Theatre, a new live album and concert film that captures the group’s performance at the Staten Island, NY venue on July 21, 2018, and today Guitar World offered a video premiere of the title track.
“When I first wrote this song, I didn’t think much of it,” Betts told Guitar World about the tune, one of the songs he penned for the Allman Brothers Band that went on to be one of the band’s most popular compositions. “When I played it for the band they insisted we record it. Now, it seems it’s the one song I have to play every night!”
Along with Betts and his son Duane on guitar, The Dickey Betts Band features drummers Frankie Lombardi and Steve Camilleri, keyboardist and lead vocalist Mike Kach, bassist Pedro Arevalo and guitarist Damon Fowler. (Devon Allman, son of Betts’ former ABB bandmate Gregg, also makes an appearance on Ramblin’ Man during “Midnight Rider.”)
Check out the newly released video of “Ramblin’ Man” below.

July 4, 2019 at 1:49 amDickey endured?? What being a rich rock star with a drinking and drug problem? Please, I hate it when some says they lived a “hard life” by partying non-stop for most of their life time.

July 3, 2019 at 5:55 pmDickey Betts is one of the best that’s ever been. If any of you haters had been through half of what Dickey has endured, you’d simply take your hat off, bow down and RESPECT this icon. I love the man!

July 3, 2019 at 1:08 pmLegend needs to head back to retirement. Too much time off and long nights grinding. Go gentle into the night Dickey!

July 3, 2019 at 11:48 amBob took the time to pen a well written and correct opinion of events. Maybe you do not agree but don’t knock him. I didn’t even last 90 seconds…

July 3, 2019 at 2:06 pmI’d take issue with “well written”. Really?
the ghost of Richard Betts
July 3, 2019 at 11:33 amUnfortunately: Dick, Doug, Noob, ‘n’ Yep are all correct. Some of the final solo was unlistenable, though he brought it back somewhat to close out the tune. His voice is from a completely ‘other person’. Gorgeous guitar though, oh Nellie!

July 3, 2019 at 9:58 amThis is rough – no other way to say it. Why release it ? If they are going to release something it should be the absolute best set they’ve ever played … if this is their best then I’m sorry but it’s total crap. I love Dicky, love the brothers but this is awful and uncomfortable to watch.

July 2, 2019 at 11:17 pmAw, man. I had no idea. This is tough to watch. Hope he has a renewed vigor after the latest health incident. Go get ’em DB!

July 3, 2019 at 1:03 amWow. Knowing how to feel about this is complex because of the multiple possibilities that are quite obvious. I think that the appropriate reaction can possibly be elicited by the way in which the project is marketed. That is: great show versus nostalgia performance versus changing of the guard, etc. The “click bait” that led me here indicated I would see a blistering rendition of the song. Frankly, I had my doubts having followed the YouTube trail beginning in Sarasota a while back. Always a fan, I bit. I think in response to at least one of the questions generated by the performance I have to wonder what the future of the Brothers’ offspring will look like. Thus far, they are not demonstrating a level of musicality with all that it entails that comes within a time frame that is anywhere near projection to approach the type of public interest generated by their dads. Worse, to gamely, but barely approximate an approach to the virtuosity of their dads when paying tribute by playing the songs is, to me, deflating. Duane threw in a nice solo there, but for it to really work, he has to electrify a crowd. See Derek Trucks and crew. Sorry. Otherwise, it’s just another average southern rock band playing in an era in which it doesn’t fit the big picture. Lot of feelings.
yep
July 3, 2019 at 9:45 amYes, Bob. Lots of feeling and barely coherent ramblings. Next time try to be more concise and use less “big” words to convey what you are trying to say, bro…Especially if you want to be a critic. Yes, it was hard to watch, but your post may have “taken the cake” for be the hardest to absorb.

July 3, 2019 at 2:04 pmAnd he obviously hasn’t heard much of Allman Betts Band yet. They’re incredibly good. The apples fall not far from the trees! DB should be proud.

July 3, 2019 at 2:00 pmBut most agree.
He must be proud of his son. Allman Betts rocks. Make sure to get out and see them this summer. Blow you away!

July 2, 2019 at 7:33 pmThis is not how Dickey needs to be remembered. How about releasing something from the archive, such as the American Music Show from Winterland on 12/14/74. Dickey (or Richard) was in top form then!
