Following his June 6 passing, the late Dr. John – aka Mac Rebennack – will be memorialized in his home city of New Orleans this weekend.

All services will be held on Saturday, June 22, with a public visitation held at the Orpheum Theater from 7 a.m. CT to 10:30 a.m. CT, followed by a two-hour private memorial from 1 p.m. CT to 3 p.m. CT at the same location. (The private memorial will, however, be broadcast live on WWOZ New Orleans at 90.7 FM.)

Finally, as per the Crescent City tradition, Dr. John will be celebrated with a second line through the streets of New Orleans, beginning at 3 p.m. CT outside the Orpheum.

Dr. John died of a heart attack at the age of 77 and, by several accounts, finished a new album during his final years. He won six Grammys, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, and his final live performance was, appropriately, at the 2017 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
