As previously reported, Brooklyn’s Daptone Records will release its 100th 45rpm single later this month, and today the label shares the A-side to the release, “Hey Brother (Do Unto Others),” which features contributions from the late Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, who passed away in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Officially attributed to The Family Daptone, the new single also features Daptone vocalists James Hunter, Lee Fields, Naomi Shelton, Saun & Starr, Antibalas’ Duke Amayo and Dan Klein of the Frightnrs, along with instrumentation from members of The Dap-Kings and Menahan Street Band. The song itself is a cover of The Frightnrs’ track off their album Nothing More to Say, and the record release is dedicated in part to the memory of the band’s singer, Dan Klein, who passed away prior to the release of that LP.

“Everybody seemed to really love the idea of being together on a record like that,” says Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth (a.k.a. Bosco Mann). “Every one of those singers that I asked, after I explained what we were trying to do, they really jumped through hoops to try to make it happen.”

Daptone’s 100th 45 will be available June 28. Pre-order the record here, listen to “Hey Brother (Do Unto Others)” below, and check out the B-side, the horn-soaked “Soul Fugue,” here.
