Earlier today, Chris Robinson Brotherhood canceled their previously announced appearance at New York’s recently reopened Webster Hall, citing “unforeseen scheduling conflicts,” and the band has now confirmed to Jambands.com that keyboardist Adam MacDougall is leaving the band.
“The CRB and Adam MacDougall have parted ways. It was a great run with Adam and we wish him the best,” a statement from the group reads. “We are looking forward to releasing our new studio album, Servants of the Sun, on June 14 and will continue to tour through the end of July. Following which, the band will take the remainder of 2019 off.”
MacDougall, who has ben with the CRB since their inception in 2011, also played with Robinson in The Black Crowes and has been a member of Phil Lesh & Friends in the past. Along with the canceled NYC show, the end-of-2019 break seems to rule out the CRB’s schedule appearance at Virginia’s LOCKN’ Festival in August.
Robinson and company are set to play a show in Hermosa Beach, CA, this Saturday. See the band’s full schedule here.

May 4, 2019 at 7:57 pmIf the Brotherhood is done, what’s next for Chris? ATCF last nite rocked – would like to see more of that lineup. Don’t see a Chris-Rich makeup, but ?

May 3, 2019 at 1:41 pmIs there any definitive word on whether Neal is gone as well? Of course CR is the man, but I think ADAM and Neal together really brought something great to this band, and losing one/both of them will not be easy. Cannot wait to see what CATS becomes, catching them in DC in a few weeks.
I think the thing that baffles me the most is that such an ending would be so abrupt after all this time. I would just like to know what happened exactly. Is it possible Adam and Neal really wanted to pursue CATS and CR felt it was at the expense of the Brotherhood?
Everything that I have seen written points to Casal and MacDougall REALLY digging what is transpiring in CATS, so maybe Chris was jealous of the vibe there?
Just pondering out loud….this makes me very sad. CRB could be counted on for solid quality touring and I had something to fall back on fro the past 8 years or so. Many happy nights…

May 3, 2019 at 9:31 amI don’t think anyone is blame here. The brutal relentless touring is the thing that killed this band.

May 2, 2019 at 7:28 pmBottom line…Musicians like to do different things. Andy has clearly grown tremendously inside all his projects. Best of luck to all the players. CRB was and still is a great band. CR is an incredibly talented singer, Neal is a Jersey Boy, he’ll be fine. I’ve been seeing him in bands since the early 90’s. Trust me…There’s more than one Clav player in the world that can work the JGB sound. New Frontiers.

May 2, 2019 at 7:44 pmLol…Sorry Adam! Not Andy!

May 2, 2019 at 6:39 pmMaybe this means The Black Crowes are getting back together for a fall tour! That’s who we all really want to see!

May 2, 2019 at 3:14 pm2 sides to every coin, the internet is freaking out, so CLEARLY there is something gained and something lost in the whole thing. Its Robinsons band… All members are hired guns. He can choose to do with it as he will and can clearly live with whatever the mass “consequence” of opinion is (like buttholes, everyone has one). Honestly is it REALLY anyones business what he/they do with their band/business. NO. But some jerk off “leakers” online can really ruin the fun for the rational humans out here; I guess I didn’t realize that Julian “D” Assange was such a big CRB fan. The CRB was an amazing band for a while, we will have that music forever! Thanks to ALL current former and in between members for the dedication to the craft. Their time had come to put up or shut up. They toured like savages and made many people very happy. With all these great musicians out there, and seeing/hearing what CATS is doing I would pose that there may be some serious awesomeness coming from the now and soon to be separate members… Robinson will definitely be putting something together and it won’t suck. As will all the other guys. If you don’t know someone personally and aren’t a fly (literally) on the wall in that room, then judge not based on hearsay and innuendo. Carry on, nothing to see here.

May 2, 2019 at 11:02 pmPreach on.
Covered all the bases needed.
Chris is the equator here. It’s his because…he says so. I love it.
If you don’t, that’s ok too.
He might be difficult to work with, but I enjoy the product that he’s turned out for the last 30 years.
How many people can you say that about?

May 2, 2019 at 3:13 pmDoes that mean They will not be at Lockn in Virginia late August if they are going on hiatus thru end of July? Hmmm

May 2, 2019 at 2:59 pmYes. Newer wife is Yoko. He’s ego tripp’in. Great talent but horrible addiction to himself. Tips his bro for being a cover band but then does as crowd flies.

May 2, 2019 at 2:07 pmNot every band lasts forever – but CRB is whoever plays with Chris, he is the only part of it that is necessary. I’m sure it comes down to money – why assume that the split is acrimonious like the Crowes?
me
May 2, 2019 at 2:44 pmFair point, we don’t know for sure but given the split occurred after an album is wrapped up yet before the tour and just before a show… with a founding member who gets a 2 sentence send-off… all combined with Chris’ past… and it certainly isn’t any type of stretch to think anything other than exactly what most of us are thinking. As for your comment about Chris being the “only” necessary part… yeah, maybe…but he’s said in his own words that it’s a band, not just him, which is why it’s called the “brotherhood”… listen to the Stern interview to here him say it himself…

May 2, 2019 at 2:02 pmIt’s hilarious how much hate there is for Chris Robinson among the dead fans all because he tells it like it is. The Dead tree is just a giant tit that bands like JRAD leech off of. He was absolutely right about that. CRB at least makes their own music. It’s more than you retreads can do. Yet you hate him? Comical.
I for one am glad I no longer have to hear the annoying synth. Whoever they bring in- please less synth.

May 2, 2019 at 4:11 pmWhere is anyone talking about the Dead, or what Chris said about them? Comments seem based on his Crowes/brother issues. For that matter, I’ve seen CRB numerous times and EVERY time he covered at least 1 Dead tune. Personally, I really don’t care because I’m not much of a Deadhead but there was no need for Chris to make the comment he did, it was nothing more than douchebaggery. He’s got a huge stick up his ass for no reason. Who cares what someone else is doing when playing/creating music, ain’t no time to hate… orchestras are still sucking the giant tit of Beethoven and Chopin. Seems more of a compliment and a show of just how powerful the music is if people keep re-interpreting it! However, I do agree with you… I never did like that synth sound that seemed to make an appearance in every CRB tune… it was like nails on a chalkboard to my ears… sort of like the loop Trey used to use every time he’d head into a jam back in the 90’s, thank God he’s limited its use since those days!

May 2, 2019 at 12:06 pmI don’t know what CR’s problem is… he’s a great singer, seems like a chill guy when you hear him interviewed but man, it seems he’s a serious cancer within the confines of a band. Too bad, because the music the Crowes and CRB put out was enjoyable. Come on Chris, take a look in the mirror at yourself… everyone can grow because no one is perfect. Work on being a better man…

May 2, 2019 at 4:50 pmBig fan of The Crowes and CRB. There’s no denying Chris’ talent. He’s a great singer/songwriter. That being said, he can be extremely difficult to work with. That’s putting it mildly. His personality can be toxic at times, and he talks a lot of shit. If you’re starting to notice a pattern of his bands it’s no coincidence. It’s really too bad, because CRB is excellent, and I live their live shows. They still might continue to be great, but we’ll see where this takes them.
adam's soul is now singing
May 2, 2019 at 10:01 amChris is the biggest p r i c k in the jamband music scene, maybe the biggest in the entire music industry. SCREW HIM
Brian
May 2, 2019 at 9:36 amHonestly, I just find Chris Robinson to be such a douche bag that I cannot support him. What he did with the Crowes was a crime. Screw this guy. Circles Around the Sun kick ass.

May 2, 2019 at 9:31 amA huge blow to this band, it now has jumped the shark. This band does not have much longer to go. So much for “brotherhood”.

May 2, 2019 at 12:22 amCircles Around The Sun is honestly more “in demand” right now than CRB from a booking standpoint. I wouldn’t be surprised if Casal broke free from the CR nipple as well, and they took CATS full time. Sorry Chris, but being a prick in life eventually catches up with ya.

May 1, 2019 at 11:17 pmGeeezus – “it was a great run with Adam and we wish him the very best” does it get any more basic than that? What happened betweeen CR and AMcDougal ???
Also who is gonna play keys with As the Crow Flies on FRI night ?
Doug
May 1, 2019 at 11:07 pmHe was the best part of that band. Filled the spaces perfectly. Funky, rhythmic player. Sounds like old, stoned, mellowed Chris is still no joy to try and work with. Poor Neil…
