Spafford paid homage to the Allman Brothers Band on Wednesday night, celebrating the ABB’s impending 50th anniversary in the legendary band’s old hometown of Jacksonville, Fla.

The quartet set the mood immediately with a four song set one, opening with a version of “Midnight Rider,” with vocals by guitarist Brian Moss. (Interestingly, this performance marked the first time Spafford played the Idlewild South tune since their 4/21/17 show in their home state of Arizona.)

From there, Spafford offered stand alone versions of their original tunes “Plans” and “The Remedy,” before closing the first half with their second-ever take on “Whipping Post” (LTP: 12/30/18).

Spafford’s second set in Jacksonville featured all original material, kicking off with a “Lovesick Melody”> “Soil” segment. From there, they dove into “The Hard Way,” “Lonely,” and “Levilan Shores.”

Spafford ended their second set with “Dirtbath,” a new instrumental that the quartet debuted earlier this month in Washington DC.

ABB’s “Soulshine” served as the band’s encore, with keyboardist Red Johnson leading on vocals.
