Phish returned to the Hampton Coliseum stage in Hampton, VA, on Sunday night to round out their three-night run at the venue, and the band followed up two solid nights with a fitting end to the weekend, offering a surprise double encore after a performance that featured a couple of major standouts like a over 20-minute first-set “Simple.”

The evening kicked off with a “Stealing Time from the Faulty Plan” that allowed Trey Anastasio to get his improvisational legs before following it up with their cover of Little Feat’s “Skin It Back.” After a quick “Brian and Robert” and “Timber,” Phish dug into one of the night’s highlights, an extended take on their live staple “Simple” that surprisingly topped the 20-minute mark in the first set and featured multiple builds throughout. Two songs later, “Camel Walk” offered a funky jam section and “Skin It Back” teases, before a straightforward “Back on the Train” and a raucous “Saw It Again” closed out the strong set.

Phish returned for set two to open with a patient “Waves” that edged into type-II territory and flowed straight into Anastasio’s “Rise/Come Together.” Another standout of the night, a 16-minute take on “Light,” highlighted by the driving forces of Mike Gordon’s bass and Jon Fishman’s drums. The band brought the energy down a bit with the ensuing “The Line” and “Wingsuit,” then got into the late-October spirit with “Your Pet Cat.” “What’s the Use?” and the always energetic “Possum” then closed out the second frame. Though fans seemed to be primed for an encore of “Tweezer Reprise,” the band had two surprises in store, first offering a run of “More” before delighting the Hampton crowd with a rousing finale of longtime favorite “You Enjoy Myself.”
