The Adirondack Independence Music Festival hosted several collaborations this past weekend, including Alex Petropulos of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Zack Burwick of Lespecial joining Pink Talking Fish for a version of Talking Heads’ “Nothing But Flowers.”

The festival was billed as “Lake George’s biggest party of the year,” and the two-day event certainly lived up to expectations.

Pink Talking Fish took the Improv Stage a little before 6 p.m. on September 2, and dove right into Phish’s “Punch You In The Eye.” The band showcased their prowess as a Phish/Pink Floyd/Talking Heads triple-threat with the aforementioned “Nothing But Flowers” and the following Dark Side of the Moon classic “Breathe,” before going back into the Phish songbook with “Rift.”

The band closed their single set with a far-reaching “Whipping Post”> “What’s The Use”> “Whipping Post” jam.

Later, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong returned the favor during their headlining set, inviting PTF keyboardist Richard James onstage for a “Cliffs”> “Once in a Lifetime”> “Cliffs” jam. Interestingly, this performance marked the first time PPPP jammed “Once In A Lifetime” in over three years (last played 5/29/2015).

Earlier, Pigeons also closed their first half with a nice “F.U.” > “Give It To Me Baby” > “F.U.” segment. The jam featured the Swift Technique horns, giving the PPPP original and the Rick James cover an extra bit of funk.
