Both Trey Anastasio and Dr. Dog played gigs in Milwaukee last night, and it looks like the musicians traded some words of encouragement. Dr. Dog, who were performing at the Turner Hall Ballroom, left a message on a grapefruit backstage at the nearby Pabst Theater, where the Trey Anastasio Band were set to take the stage. The note—addressed to Anastasio—said “Have a great show.”
Anastasio responded with a grapefruit message of his own, writing “Dear Dr. Dog, POW!, Have a great” before adding a piece of paper to the bottom of the fruit that read, “Show Too!! (It’s HARD to write on a grapefruit).” The guitarist then tweeted a photo of a his reply while donning a Dr. Dog cap, which you can view above.
In related news, last night’s TAB show featured a number of originals as well as a few covers, including Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog,” Bob Marley’s “Small Axe” and the band’s recently debuted rendition of Ana Tijoux’s “1977.” The group will continue their tour tomorrow night with the first show of a two-night stand at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
