Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart passed away from complications due to Multiple Sclerosis in of December 2010. On Saturday night at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City, his former bandmate Gary Lucas and a variety of musicians will perform a show in his honor. “A Tribute to Captain Beefheart: a Benefit for Multiple Sclerosis” also will feature Nona Hendryx (Labelle, Talking Heads), Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Nathan Larson (Shudder To Think), Cynthia Sley (Bush Tetras), Doug Gillard (Guided By Voices), Eric Slick (Dr. Dog) and Weasel Walter (Behold The Arctopus). Other players will participate as well to present music that will span Captain Beefheart’s career. All proceeds from the event will be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
