Steve Kimock and Billy Goodman initially entered Kimock’s barn studio to record some demos. The pair were joined by Kimock’s son John Morgan on drums, bassist Peter Fritz and Jim Kost on Hammond B3. However, the two guitarists were so enamored with the results that they have decided to release their efforts. The Big Red Barn Sessions collects ten songs, opening with a ballad after which ‘it moves on to fingerpicking duets, twelve string guitar riffs reminiscent of the early Byrds, front porch offerings taking us back to Workingman’s Dead, all the way down to the slide guitar instrumental favorite ‘Cowboy.’ At present there is now word as to whether the five musicians might assemble for a gig at some point over the coming days. To learn a bit more about Kimock’s ongoing projects, be sure to check out Randy Ray’s recent site interview with the guitarist.
