Members of The Roots and Antibalas will help rap icon Public Enemy reinterpret its famed It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back at the Roots Picnic this spring. The second-annual event will return to Philadelphias Festival Pier on June 6, boasting performances by the likes of TV on the Radio, the Black Keys, Dirty Magazine featuring Zoe Kravitz, and Busdriver, Asher Roth, Writtenhouse, Back to Basics featuring King Britt & Dozia, Dave P. and Kid Cudi, among others. In addition, The Roots will bookend the daylong event with their own performances, while Antibalas will deliver a set of its own material (and likely collaborate with longtime friends TV on the Radio). The festival is billed as the first time It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back has been recreated by a live band. Meanwhile, The Roots residency will continue at New Yorks Highline Ballroom this coming Thursday.
