Last Thursday, New Orleans-staples Papa Grows Funk Los Angeles The Mint. During his performance, bandleader John ‘Papa’ Gros invited fellow Hammond organist Mike Mangan onstage for the Papa Grows Funk original Tootie Montana and Jimmy Smiths Root Down. Mangan is best known as the organist in the Los Angeles-based Big Organ Trio. Papa Grows Funk will play a free show at Crested Butte, COs Mt. Crested Butte tomorrow, while Big Organ Trio will appear at The Mint themselves on September 20 with Ian McLagan of The Faces.
