This past Saturday in Atlanta, two longtime colleagues looked back at the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Col. Bruce Hampton and the Quark Alliance were the headliners at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta, while Hampton’s former (and future?) Aquarium Rescue Unit bandmate Jimmy Herring attended the show. Herring was invited to sit in during the second set and took the stage on Hampton’s guitar. The two revisited such ARU staples as ‘No Egos Under Water,’ ‘Planet Earth’ and ‘Time Flack.’ Also guesting throughout much of this set on drums was Duane Trucks (brother to Derek and Soul Stew Revival member in his own right). Next up for the Quark Alliance is a show this coming Saturday in Canton, GA at Downtown Kitchen. Herring talks a bit about his early days with ARU in his current Jambands.com reader interview.
