Reports are slowly trickling in from the fourth annual Jam in the Dam festival, which took place at Amsterdams famed Melkweg from March 16-19. As previously reported, the event featured multiple sets from a mix of jam-scene staples, including Umphreys McGee, the Disco Biscuits, Dark Star Orchestra, Tea Leaf Green, Lotus and Perpetual Groove. As is often the case when the Disco Biscuits and Umphreys McGee share a bill, members of the two groups nodded to Pink Floyd and the Beatles as the Brain Damaged Eggmen. During the encore of the Disco Biscuits second performance, the members of Umphreys McGee filtered to the stage for renditions of the Beatles Baby You’re a Rich Man and Pink Floyds Another Brick in the Wall (the following show, the Disco Biscuits also nodded to Pink Floyd with a run through one of their trademark covers, Run Like Hell). Also in the sit in department, the Disco Biscuits Jon Gutwillig played guitar with Umphreys McGee on In the Kitchen, while Perpetual Groove lent guitarist Brock Butler to Tea Leaf Green for a take on Taught to Be Proud. Other highlights included Dark Star Orchestras faithful rendition of The Grateful Deads June 9, 1977 performance at San Franciscos Winterland Arena during Jam in the Dams official pre-party, Marc Brownsteins new custom Ibanez bass (complete with inlays of the Biscuits logo) and a version of Umphreys Wife Soup that included some onstage audience participation.
