Throughout the summers of 2006 and 2007, artists including Govt Mule, the Disco Biscuits, Umphreys McGee, The Slip, Apollo Sunshine, TV on the Radio, Beastie Boys, Feist, The Shins and Band of Horses performed at Brooklyns long empty McCarren Pool. Today, real estate blog Curbed, which is run by Pharmers Almanac editor Lockhart Steele, is reporting that the space will be turned back into a functioning pool as part of New York Mayor Michael Bloombergs plan for A Greener, Greater New York. According to reports, the area will receive a $50 million facelift, including a new cafdiving pool and gym. The space will also be used as a ice skating rink in the winter. While officials hope to use the revitalized area for spring concerts moving forward, regular summer concerts will cease after the summer of 2008. A list of upcoming performances will be confirmed in the coming months.
