The members of Umphrey’s McGee have long expressed an appreciation of Frank Zappa and his legacy. For instance Back at the 2005 Jammys guitarist Jake Cinninger guested with Dweezil Zappa and his Zappa Plays Zappa band. Last evening at the San Diego House of Blues, Umphrey’s closed out its current tour in style, by inviting one of Frank Zappa’s latter-era bandmates to the stage. Mike Keneally joined Umphrey’s on guitar and then on bass for a jam that developed out of ‘Intentions Clear.’ Following this, Keneally also added guitar to versions of ‘It’s About That Time,’ ‘White Man’s Moccasins.’
