Experimental New York music club Tonic will stage its final show this Friday. The evening is being billed as a John Zorn Improv Night Party and is expected to feature dozens of special guests (many of whom helped bring the club to fame). In addition, last night longtime Tonic resident Vernon Reid headlined his final show at the venue. The former Living Colour guitarist shared a bill with Groove Collective and offered a set of mostly free-form music. During his performance Reid also brought out his Yohimbe Brother, DJ Logic for several improvisational segments during his set. Logic, who met his future MMW/Tonic collaborators after playing with Reid, DJed from the venue’s floor while Reid led his band on the crowded stage. Meanwhile, the club is currently polling fans online as to where they’d most like to see Tonic reopen.
