Although Jimmy Herring has stepped aside as a regular member of Phil Leshs band this fall, last night he availed himself of an opportunity to revisit the Grateful Dead catalog. Herring appearing during the second set of the RatDog show, joining his once (and future?) Dead bandmate Bob Weir for four songs during the second set. Herring joined in on guitar for a stretch that began with the Beatles cover Tomorrow Never Knows and then continued through Playing In The Band, Uncle John’s Band and Black Peter. He later emerged for the Ripple encore and who knows, perhaps hell be back when RatDog returns to the Variety Playhouse this evening.
