Fraternal bands Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven took turns opening for Widespread Panic this weekend at George, WAs Gorge Amphitheater. Each night members of the inter-locking bands also took the stage with Panic beginning with an appearance from violinist Jonathan Segel on Chunk Of Coal and Ain’t Life Grand on July 2. A night later, harpist Johnny Hickman joined Panic on Stop Breakin’ Down Blues during the groups first set, later returning alongside Camper Van Beethoven/Cracker ringleader David Lowery for a first-time cover of soul-staple None of Us Are Free. Hickman remained onstage for Ribs and Whiskey and joined during the shows encore for a version of Slippin’ Into Darkness. Widespread Panic will perform in Lake Tahoe, NV tonight while Cracker is en route to Salt Lake City, UT for a performance Thursday.
