Scott Larned, the Dark Star Orchestra keyboardist and co-founder passed away due to heart failure yesterday afternoon. Larneds work on the Hammond organ as well as his gravelly vocals were particularly well suited for elciting the sounds of Grateful Dead keyboardist Brett Mydland. Larned, a former teacher, had an affable personality that endeared him to other musicians and DSO fans alike. The memorial service will remain private although details regarding a band-faciliated memorial will appear in the days to come on the Dark Star Orchestra web site.
