On Memorial Day weekend 1996, SUNY-Purchase was the site of an event designed in part to mark the passing of Jerry Garcia. Spearheaded by Ken Hays and his team at Terrapin Tapes and initially dubbed Deadhead Heaven: A Gathering of the Tribe,’ the event officially took on the name Gathering of the Vibes the following year with its move to Croton Point Park. Subsequently the Vibes has taken place in Plattsburgh, Bridgeport and Red Hook, NY before moving to the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY. This year the Vibes will return to Mariaville, on August 12, 13 & 14, with no bands yet announced but a fine line-up anticipated for its 10th year.
