Joan Osborne, who last performed with the Dead at the Oakland Arena on New Year’s Eve, sat in with the band for much of the second set in Holmdel, NJ last night. Osborne who had appeared at the Newport Folk Festival over the weekend emerged during ‘St. Stephen’ and contributed vocals to ‘He’s Gone,’ ‘China Doll’ and ‘Sugaree.’ The Dead is off until tomorrow night at Jones Beach (although rumors continue to swirl about where the various band members may turn up this evening) while Osborne will perform on Friday in Lyons, Colorado at the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival.
