The Derek Trucks Band traveled the east coast this past weekend and invited some guest musicians on stage upon arrival. On Saturday the band was at SmileFest in Union Grove, NC. While this set did not feature a sit-in from former DTB keyboard player Bill McKay (now with Leftover Salmon), longtime Muddy Waters collaborator ‘Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin added guitar to much of the set including ’44 Blues’ and ‘Feel So Bad’ while Johnny Neel appeared on keys during ‘Leavin’ Trunk.’ The next night up at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, Paul Olsen joined on guitar for ‘Going Down Slow’ (Olsen opened the show with DTB lead vocalist Mike Mattison in their duo, Scrapomatic).
