A number of artists performed together at last night’s HeadCount benefit at New York’s BB King’s. The night opened with a (Marco) Benevento, (Joe) Russo, (Mike) Gordon Trio, later joined by Michael Kang on mandolin. In turn the HeadCount Allstars took the stage featuring moe.‘s Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico along with the Disco Biscuits’ Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner as well as Cyro Baptista. A bit later a bluegrass set featured Benevento, Amico, Kang, Gordon, Schnier, Reid Genauer and Cochemea ‘Cheme’ Gastelum. Later in this extended evening, a set from moe. yielded way to a Benevento, Brownstein, Gastelum, Kang, Schnier, Russo and moe.‘s Jim Loughlin and Chuck Garvey (a jam that segues into ‘Stand Up and Be Counted.’ HeadCount founders Andy Bernstein and Marc Brownstein also made speeches in support of the organization’s efforts which now begins in earnest this summer with volunteers crossing the country at numerous shows.
