The line-up for the First Annual Gainesville Jazz Festival has been announced. The event kicks off on Monday, April 21, and runs through Friday, April 25 at various venues in Gainesville, FL. The line-up includes moe., George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste and Brian Stoltz (Funky Meters), Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, The Motet, Om Trio, and The Wild Magnolias. Local acts Swayback, Fluid Mosaic, Brickfoot Ninja Squad, Jumbo Gumbo and Overdub will also perform. Festival organizers say the shows will be a nice alternative for students in Florida that are not able to attend the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which occurs during final exams. Students worried about exams can stay close to home and still catch a bunch of great shows throughout the week, says Spencer Garn of Wild Mountain Productions. [It] seemed like an obvious way to overcome this exam time conflict.
