Trumpeter Michael Ray (Cosmic Krewe) jammed with RAQ Saturday at the Blue Nile in New Orleans. The collaboration was unplanned. After hearing two songs, he grabbed his trumpet and requested to sit in. He remained on stage for six songs: Frank Zappa’s Andy, Clam Slide, Beauregard, Loose, Carbohydrates and Hannah. Ray, who spent more than a decade as a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra and also performed with Kool & the Gang, expressed interest in future collaborations with RAQ; both live and in the studio.
Last night, RAQ’s Chris Michetti (guitar) and Todd Stoops (keyboards) sat in with Brothers Past at Jake’s Roadhouse in Decatur, GA. Michetti and Stoops emerged for a 30-minute jam out of ‘Machine,’ which segued into ‘Gonzo in New York.’ Rebus drummer Kyle Poehling also performed with the band.
RAQ plays tonight at De La Luz at the Temple Ball in Carrboro, NC. For details, visit www.raqmusic.com.
