A public memorial service for Michael Houser will be held at 7:30 tonight in Atlantas Piedmont Park. Rev. Jeff Mosier (Blueground Undergrass, ARU) will speak and also play Amazing Grace. Its a place for all of the Atlanta people to come and all of the people that drove in for the memorial in Athens are supposed to come over tonight,’ says Mosier. ‘Mikey was just such an amazing person and he really underpinned the vibe of that band. The memorial is being organized by Shea Miller, a fan who has been seeing Widespread Panic since 1991. I really felt like we needed a place to come together, notes Miller. Its good to share grief and celebrate life together and we also wanted to discourage people from going to Athens since its such a small town. We wanted to give his family some privacy.
For those not able to attend, there will be a moment of silence at sunset, which is at 8:28 in Atlanta. Percussionist Count M’Butu (ARU) will also perform along with several other musicians.
