Portland, Oregon-based Porterhouse has announced that bassist Tye North will perform with the band on its upcoming fall tour. North, formerly of Leftover Salmon, will join the band for its 6-week Western tour in support of its latest album, Thumbs Up, Little Buddy, due October 30 on Lauan Records. Tye sees we’re a band that gives him a lot of room to improvise and lend him a voice,’ says keyboardist Joey Porter. Porterhouse is a way for him to be more creative and express himselfWe jam, but we jam like jazz musicians. We play real funk, with that heavy pocket that only works when there’s a little bit of anger behind it. James Brown had it. And so did Sly Stone. With Tye, we feel Porterhouse has it more than ever before. And we’re still doing it without using guitars.’
The tour kicks off November 8 at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, WA. For a complete list of dates, visit www.porterhousefunk.com.
