Mike Mattison will be in the City of Big Shoulders this weekend, appearing at the Chicago Theatre with Tedeschi Trucks Band. He’ll be busy with TTB for much of the spring but as he reveals below, plans are also in the works for new album from his band Scrapomatic (and presumably some live gigs as well).

What will you remember most about 2016?

That our last, great Rock and Roll poets died: David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Leon Russell. We loved them, but we didn’t take them as seriously as we could have.

Which album or albums have you listened to most this past year?

Clifton Chenier, King of the Bayous and T. Rex’s Light of Love.

What was your favorite show of 2016?

Having the privilege of listening to Los Lobos and Luther Dickinson every night for two months. Try it sometime.

What emerging artists should we watch out for in 2017?

Donald Trump.

Any big plans in the works for 2017?

Scrapomatic will drop its most significantly unfriendly album yet. You’ll hate it.
