Bassist Jesse Murphy and guitarist Avi Bortnick first gained prominence as members of John Scofield’s Uber Jam Band. The musicians later played key roles in the New York’s NuBlu jazz scene that produced Murphy’s other famed band, Brazilian Girls. This evening Murphy and Bortnick will take the stage together once again at New York’s Mercury Lounge as the Brooklyn Girls Sound System. The band will also feature Brazilian Girls drummer Aaron Johnson, keyboardist Brian Charette and drummer Shawn Pelton, the latter of whom is best known for his work in the SNL house band (the musicians have also performed as the Shity Shity Jam Band). Murphy and Johnson will also tour this winter as part of the Chris Berry Trio.
