Free jazz guitarists Nels Cline and Marc Ribot will share the stage for the first time on June 15. The guitar innovators will perform at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge as part of an event sponsored by DownBeat magazine. Cline—who currently plays guitar in Wilco—is credited with helping fuse jazz and alternative music. Ribot—a longtime New York guitarist whose worked with MMW and Trey Anastasio—also helped add a punk and experimental sensibility to traditional jazz music. Ribot will also perform at Katonah, NY’s Katonah Museum on June 9 as part of John Scofield’s Shades of Jazz series.
