After Saturday’s show was postponed to Monday as a result of Hurricane Isaias, Phish wrapped up their fall tour with two nights at the Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville. AL.

On Sunday, the band kicked off the two-night stand with “Rift.” This was the first time the band performed the tune as an opener since 6/20/04. “Rift” segued into “Free,” which made a relatively quick return after just three shows, but this 20-minute exploratory version proved memorable. Following “Maze,” “Theme from the Bottom” also offered some driving collective improvisation. The “Ether Edge” > “Drift While You’re Sleeping” pairing that came after “Sand” and closed the frame, exceeded 29 minutes, as the band developed and offered variations on a few ambient ideas.

“Everything’s Right” opened the second set and an expanding, textured jam eventually found its way to a fiery “Fuego,” which nearly attained the 28-minute mark before completion. A few of the songs that followed were returning to the rotation after a light gap. “Twenty Years Later” last surfaced at Sphere in the spring. Phish previously played “Piper,” “Rock and Roll” and encore-opener “About to Run” in mid-July. The “Piper” which surfaced after “What’s The Use” facilitated an animated sequence that carried on into “A life Beyond the Dream.” A joyous “Rock and Roll” came next, building to a raucous close. The night then concluded with the “About to Run,” “Slave” encore.

The final opening set of the tour, featured some notable bookends. The action started with an ascending “Mike’s Song,” which led into the ballad “Shade” for the first time. “Shade” provided a stately juxtaposition to the spirited “Weekapaug.” The final tune of the opening frame was an active, angular 19-minute “My Friend, My Friend.” It had appeared in this position on only one other occasion since the song debuted in 1992. The “Wolfman’s Brother” which the band performed at the midpoint offered another multi-hued excursion.

Phish then delivered a 10-song second set, mostly comprised of a few discrete sequences. A robust “No Men In No Man’s Land” led into to “Prince Caspian” that featured some darker tones before resolving into an 18-minute “Blaze On.” The band then started “Down With Disease” but never quite ended the song, instead hastening into a kinetic “Big Black Furry Creature From Mars.” A tranquil “Scents & Subtle Sounds” eventually led to a punchy jam that found new form in “Good Times, Bad Times” and “Taste.” Stand-alone versions of  “The Wedge” and  “Character Zero” closed out the set. The encore was another three-song grouping, as sweet, pensive versions of  “Wading In The Velvet Sea” and “Backwards Down The Number Line” were succeeded by into a vigorous, climatic “Run Like An Antelope.”

Phish’s next confirmed shows are four dates at Madison Square Garden, culminating with the band’s 100th appearance on January 2, 2027.
