The String Cheese Incident debuted in December 1993 at the Arts Center in Crested Butte. Over the years to follow the band actively crossed the country, performing upwards of 200 gigs a year on occasion. However, until Sunday night, SCI had yet to perform in the state of Delaware.

String Cheese finally rectified this with a gig at the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville, DE. As the band posted following the gig: “Our first ever Delaware Incident ✅”

The group delivered a memorable first performance in “The First State” (a nickname that originates from Delaware’s role as the initial state to sign the United States Constitution). The band presented a range of its music, including “Black Clouds” which goes back to 1995 and “Got To Be You,” which the group debuted in May.

The second set opened with a pair of tunes that acknowledged Jerry Garcia who passed away on the same date in 1995. The group came out firing with “Scarlet Begonias.” The band had previously played the song on only one other occasion, joined by Keller Williams in Jamaica on 1/27/19. That version closed the set, segueing out of Williams’ “Best Feeling.”

Last night in Delaware, “Scarlet” segued into its familiar musical companion “Fire on the Mountain.” SCI first performed that tune on 9/11/98 with Williams and Garcia’s longtime collaborators Merl Saunders. Four versions followed, with the one immediately preceding last evening taking place at Suwannee Hulaween, in Live Oak, FL on 10/27/24 when the group backed Bob Weir for the Bob Weir Incident.
