Heavy MakeUp, the trio featuring Edie Brickell, CJ Camerieri, and Trever Hagen, will make its national television debut tonight, Wednesday, November 27. The ensemble, which released its full-length sophomore LP, Here It Comes, over the summer, will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Before unveiling the renderings of their album entries, the group first collaborated in 2022, amalgamating their collective might on the song “More and More” for Camerieri’s solo project, CARM. The trumpeter gained his chops as a sideman for Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Ben Folds, Sting, and the National. Meanwhile, Hagen obtained his accreditation through collaborations with Bon Iver, Mouse on Mars, Marijuana Deathsquads, and more.

As for the group’s leading lady, Brickell’s ‘80s spawned New Bohemians cemented their status by releasing the fan-favorite album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars. In time, she partnered with comedian and bluegrass musician Steve Martin and put out two albums. Heavy MakeUp offered their initial self-titled LP  in 2023 and followed up with their debut at the iconic Newport Folk Festival in support of the set.

Heavy MakeUp is known for its improvisational approach, which allows songs to develop at the moment and build compositionally over time. The band leans into tropes of pop, folk, electronic, rock, jazz, chamber music, and the avant-garde, emphasizing an experimental approach.
